Disaster management using unmanned aerial vehicles
We published Disaster management using unmanned aerial vehicles, Chapter 6 of Elsevier’s Unmanned Aerial Systems (2021).
The chapter groups UAV roles in preparedness and response: coverage and information gathering, resource dispatch and survivor rescue, and communications. We walk through coverage algorithms, sensing, comms architectures, and the hardware and operational limits that still get in the way. The work grew out of path planning for quadcopter teams over damaged buildings: get eyes on survivors in the first hours, so rescue teams can go to them instead of searching.
